Style:
Robert Avedon had an incredibly unique style of photography. All his photos are black and white giving them a dark tone. He takes mostly portrait pictures dressing his subjects up and having them have a look of insanity. I can appreciate how he worked. This level of creativity is truly unbelievable.

Philosophy:
Most of his work was of famous people or people who had quite defining facial features. For example he has many photos of Donald Trump and Marilyn Monroe. Then his other photos are of a man with zero hair anywhere on his body, and has insects crawling all over him. Through his work we can see who he was as a person, an incredibly creative person, who is also crazy.

Influences:
He has completely changed the way I think of photography. I used to be focused on taking pictures of nature, but he has helped me realize that there is beauty in insanity. I find it fascinating how creative he must have been to think of some of the shots he created.

Compare and contrast:
The hardest part of recreating this photo was getting the detail on the face. The man in his photo is much older and has much more on his face to focus on. The next part was that my subject lacked the earlobes of his, making the picture look much different.

Compare and contrast:
The hardest part of this was the shadows. I wasn't able to recreate the shadow and keep the background clear. so I had to pick one. That's the biggest difference in these two pictures.

The hardest part of this recreation was getting all of my mom in the frame. As well as getting the lighting the same. The woman in his is very small making her fit in the frame very easily. That's why this was such a challenge.

Artist Statement:
I had a lot of fun recreating these photos. Not without failure though. I thought some of the other pictures would have turned out better. I ended up recreated 5 or 6 because I was unhappy with how they turned out. I'm still not 100% happy with the last one. I had to use some of his more normal photos as well because recreating the insanity of some of his shots was preposterous. At the end of the day he is an incredible photographer and I have learned so much from this project.
